Kelardasht - Persian and oriental rug guide

KELARDASHT

Kelardasht is a small town located in central Iran at the foot of the Alborz Mountains. The rugs made here have simple, geometric patterns reminiscent of Caucasian rugs. They are truly "genuine" rugs, as they are knotted in the artisans' homes. Although they do not have significant commercial value, they are sturdy and true expressions of a slight primitive tradition that is conveyed directly without prepared patterns and a real expressions of the artisan's imagination and skill.
