Mahal - Persian and oriental rug guide

MAHAL

Mahal is the term applied to the finest rugs from the Mushkabad district in central Persia. Although they are not densely knotted they are made of good quality materials and are soft. The decorative patterns are based on medallion motifs or, more frequently, the typical Sarough-type bouquets. They are made in a wide range of bright colours, and the structure is of cotton.
