Mazlegan - Persian and oriental rug guide

MAZLEGAN or MAZLAGHAN

Mazlegan rugs are made in three villages located along the road from Hamadan to Teheran, and always have a distinctive pattern that makes them easily recognizable. A striking, jagged white line divides the field into four blue corner-piece or spandrels; in the centre there is a red diamond-shape, with a blue medallion in the middle with a jagged outline as well. These rugs are made of good quality wool, the knot density is not high. Mazlegans are usually small and do not exceed the Sejadeh (200 x 135 cm) size.
