Najafabad - Persian and oriental rug guide

NAJAFABAD

The town of Najafabad is located in the vicinity of Isfahan and its rug production has ties to the ancient capital of the Persian Empire. Najafabads are decorated with floral motifs, usually in medallions that are based on the style and colour combinations of Isfahan rugs. However, the knot density of Najafabad rugs can be considered medium (between 200,000 and 500,000 knots per square meter) and they are made of wool and cotton, not silk. These are well-made rugs with warm colours used in elegant combinations. As to size, Najafabad rugs are large, 300 x 200 or 400 x 300 cm, small rugs and runners are extremely rare.
