Qashqai - Persian and oriental rug guide

QASHQAI

The Qashqai are a nomadic people of distant Turkish origin who live in southern Persia in the Fars region. They have been in this area since the 10th century when then came down from Central Asia. Qashqai rugs are made entirely of wool and their patterns often resemble those of Sirazs, even though production is quite varied. These rugs are decorated with stylized and geometric motifs in many colours. The Qashqai also make kilims that are cheerful and colourful and woven with the traditional slit where two colours meet along a vertical line in the pattern .
