BIRJAND and MUD

Birjand and Mud are two cities in the Khorasan region that make very similar rugs. In fact, the rugs from these cities are almost always decorated with tightly placed series of herati patterns that are sometimes interrupted by a large, round medallion. The background is usually beige that contrasts the blue used for the border and brown. Another, though less frequent, pattern is the classic panel motif derived from the Bakhtiari tradition. However, in the Birjand and Mud rugs it is rendered with more elegance, using silk to highlight some details. The colours used for this design are bright and lively. The rugs are made from fine quality wools obtained from local sheep breeders.
