PEKING

Peking rugs are made in the region of Beijing, the capital of the PRC; many of the patterns come from the Buddhist and Taoist traditions. Blue - in all shades - is certainly the main colour of these rugs and is used with shades that offset it brilliantly such as yellow, beige, pink and even orange in the older ones. They have cotton structures and are made with excellent quality wools that have a beautiful sheen. This unique feature of the wools makes the Peking rugs seem to change colour and sparkle depending on the angle you look at it. The patterns are light and airy and usually comprise a round central medallion and few other designs on the field.
