KAZAK and SHIRVAN BAF

These contemporary rugs are made in Pakistan by Afghan craftsmen, who retrieved the patterns of the most important examples of Caucasian rugs from the past centuries. The main characterizing element of these rugs is the material used for knotting: Ghazny wool that is hand spun and hand dyed according to the traditional methods, using natural dyes. This gives the finished rugs a special patina and an unevenness in the shading that becomes a fundamental decorative element. There are various qualities according to shine and the fineness of the knotting. The Kazak rugs are less expensive, the wool is not as shiny and they have fewer knots (around 100,000 knots per square metre), while the Shirvan baf rugs are made of silkier wool and approximately 190,000 knots per square metre. Both qualities, however are sturdy and can readily fit into classic or modern rooms.
